Substantive Editing

Substantive Editing

After addressing the broader aspects of your work, it’s time to focus on the finer details with substantive editing (also known as content editing, line editing, or full editing). This stage goes beyond the big-picture elements to hone in on the language itself—the words on the page that bring your story to life.

When I undertake substantive editing for your work, I dive deep into the text, providing meticulous line-by-line edits and feedback. My goal is to enhance the logical flow, creativity, transitions, sentence structure, word choice, and more.

I typically use the “tracked changes” feature in Microsoft Word to make these edits, but I’m just as comfortable working in Google Docs if that’s your preference.

Substantive editing is ideal for projects that have their narrative, structure, or plot largely in place but still need significant polishing in other areas.

Suppose you’re searching for a thorough, hands-on editing approach that amplifies your authentic voice and brings your ideas into sharp focus. In that case, my comprehensive substantive editing service is exactly what you need.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed? No worries! Sometimes all you need is a copy editor, and I’m here to help with that too.
